Why is the cost higher then local cheer/pom?

South Lyon Stars is a club pom team, compare it to a travel baseball, premier soccer team or class at a dance studio. We are not funded by the school. We are 100% self-funded. Our football season is approximately 12 weeks. The girls are getting 6+ hours a week of practice, and 11+ hours a week for comp season and performances. The estimated cost per hour is $6.00. Please also note that we are trained Pom Pon coaches and not parent volunteers. South Lyon Stars is a Nonprofit 501C3 Sports Club.

What skills are needed?

Pom is not Dance. You do not need a dance background to do pom. Pom is precise punching movements, set to music with a kick line include. Pom is more about have a hard work ethic and positive attitude.

Do I have to be able to do the splits?

No- (but we do work on them everyday:))

What can I do at home to prepare?

Stretching is very important, start now and you will be a leg up. Keep yourself in good shape. Can you run  for 2 mins straight. Can you do 30 sit-up?

What days of week do you practice?

In the fall we practice Monday, Wed and Thursday 5:30-7:30pm - Practice times OR days could change as we are scheduled by SL Schools and our local church and their available.

What is camp?

We hold a 2 day day camp Aug  TBD 9:30am-2:30pn. We learn pom basic's and routines for the season, we also coordinate team bonging. Camp takes place outside at Atchinson Park.

Why have a fall team and a competition team?

We like to offer 2 teams as this team is for girls to try the sport of pompon. Some girls may not be ready their first season for Competition. Some girls may be deciding between dance or other sports and pom. We like to give them a option to only do 12 weeks.

When is tryouts for the comp team? End of October

How many girls can make the team? We have no set amount, we  can take as many as we would like. The max for comp team is 35.
